Growth, Culture and Competitive Advantage, part 3

workshop

Growth and success

MFS truly entered a new phase of growth the moment we decided to build our own workshop. Until then, we had mainly focused on parts supply and field services. The new facility changed everything. Suddenly, we were able to offer complete workshop services as well.

What started as a workshop quickly evolved into something much bigger. We built an entirely new headquarters with offices, meeting rooms, a canteen, locker rooms and showers — a professional environment designed for growth. And growth came fast.

The decision to invest in our own infrastructure became one of the defining moments in the company’s history. It gave us control, flexibility and the ability to serve customers on a completely different level.

Expanding the Team

In the early years, we managed everything with a small team, a lot of creativity and an entrepreneurial mindset. We were even early adopters of technology before it became mainstream. Long before smart devices became common, we already used a video doorbell system. Delivery drivers often stared at the camera in confusion and asked why we did not simply open the door ourselves.

But as workshop services expanded, the company needed more people — and different kinds of expertise. We started recruiting workshop engineers, administrative staff and specialists for a growing number of office functions.

One thing mattered above all else: mentality. We were looking for proactive team players who took responsibility and understood the importance of collaboration. As the company grew, teamwork was no longer optional — it became essential.

Lead

Learning to Lead

Growth also forced us to evolve as managers.

MFS had originally been founded by five engineers. Along the way, we learned an incredible amount through experience, but none of us had ever been formally trained to lead a rapidly growing organization. As the company expanded, structure and direction became increasingly important.

We introduced clear goals, responsibilities and departmental structures. We learned to trust each other more, to delegate and to motivate people to take ownership themselves. Slowly but surely, MFS transformed from a centrally managed company into a decentralized organization.

Communication became one of the biggest challenges. In the early days, information could simply be shared around the coffee machine or during lunch in the canteen. As the company expanded, that informal approach no longer worked. Clear communication processes became critical to keeping everyone aligned.

cultuur

Mission and Culture

One thing, however, never changed: our culture. From the beginning, we believed:

“Actions speak louder than words” and “The customer is always right.”

Those principles still define MFS today!

The mission we formulated years ago remains just as relevant:

It is our mission to improve your profitability, reduce the downtime of your gas turbine and decrease your total cost of ownership.

It was not just a slogan. It became the foundation for every decision we made.

service

Service Without Limits

At MFS, “The customer is king” was never just a phrase. It meant being available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week — and organizing the entire company around that promise.

Because of the international nature of our business, our teams constantly deal with time zone differences, local legislation and cultural expectations. Supporting customers worldwide requires flexibility, dedication and problem-solving skills.

knowledge 1

Sharing Knowledge and Building Expertise

As MFS continued to grow, knowledge sharing became increasingly important. Maintaining the high quality our customers expected required close cooperation between departments and teams.

For management, this transition was not always easy. In the beginning, letting go and trusting others felt uncomfortable. But growth demanded it. Delegation became a necessity, not a choice.

At the same time, we expanded internationally and hired employees from different countries and cultures. This not only strengthened our understanding of international laws and regulations, but also broadened our global network and technical expertise.

Our knowledge of gas turbines — and the global gas turbine market — grew rapidly. We carefully selected reliable national and international partners, invested heavily in tooling and continuously protected the quality, flexibility and dedication that defined MFS.

All these elements together created something powerful:

MFS developed a clear competitive advantage in the market.

And that advantage would prove invaluable when the company faced its next chapter.
